The Borgess Foundation is governed by local individuals who posses a strong passion for healthcare and the people we serve. We believe in our community and therefore our funds are managed within our region using fiscally conservative investment strategies. Our staff is small and efficient, ensuring more donated funds go directly to support world-class Borgess healthcare programs; purchase state-of-the-art equipment; maintain, renovate or expand local facilities; and fund life-changing research in the field of medicine.

Philanthropy has been a source of vitality for the Borgess Health care mission since the very beginning. In 1889 Bishop Casper H. Borgess of Detroit donated $5,000 from his mother’s estate to Monsignor Francis O’Brien with instructions to build a hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. That generosity was the seed of what has now grown into Borgess Health – a sophisticated local health network, serving an 11-county area of southwest and south central Michigan.

Our community has been with us every step of the way. The generosity of individuals, businesses and organizations has played an essential role in every major development, large building projects, and each new era of health care at Borgess. As a result, Borgess continues to provide quality care with compassion to all people, regardless of their ability to pay for services.
