Stocks and Securities

Gifts of securities may provide significant tax benefits for the donor. The Borgess Foundation through its investment manager, Greenleaf Trust, is able to accept electronic transfers of stocks, bonds, mutual funds and/or other marketable securities to support our health programs. IRA Charitable Rollover Extension Now Law

If you are age 70½ or older, you can donate up to $100,000 from your IRA to the Borgess Foundation, tax-free. On October 3rd, President Bush signed Public Law 110-343, which includes an extension of the IRA Charitable Rollover originally enacted as part of the Pension Protection Act of 2006. The extension is retroactive, applying to distributions made throughout both the 2008 and 2009 tax years.

The Borgess Foundation worked with a number of donors and their financial advisors last year to utilize IRA rollover distributions to support Borgess programs. If you would like to make a gift utilizing a distribution from your IRA, please contact Tony McDonnell at 269-226-8100.
